This is the beautiful story of a kind companion, Abu Hurairah. When he embraced Islam, his beloved mother had not yet accepted the faith. Abu Hurairah loved his mother dearly and continuously prayed to Allah, asking Him to guide her heart to Islam. He yearned for her to find the same spiritual peace he had discovered.
One day, filled with love, he invited her to believe in Allah. Sadly, his mother responded with harsh and disrespectful words about Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Abu Hurairah was overcome with sadness and sorrow. Crying, he rushed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and told him all that had happened, seeking solace and hope in his distress.
He begged Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to make a special prayer for his dear mother, hoping for a miracle. So, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ raised his hands and prayed, saying: «اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِ أُمَّ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ» (Oh Allah, guide the mother of Abu Hurairah). This powerful prayer filled Abu Hurairah with immense hope, igniting a new light within him.
The Miracle of a Mother’s Acceptance
Abu Hurairah felt so happy and hopeful with the Prophet’s prayer! He rushed home, finding his door closed. His mother, inside, was taking a bath. She asked him to wait for a moment. And she announced with overwhelming joy: «يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ»! (O Abu Hurairah, I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger!) Abu Hurairah was overflowing with happiness! He then asked Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to pray again, saying: ‘Oh Messenger of Allah, pray that Allah makes my mother and me beloved to all believers, and makes them beloved to us!’ Prophet Muhammad ﷺ responded by praying: «اللَّهُمَّ حَبِّبْ عُبَيْدَكَ هَذَا وَأُمَّهُ إِلَى عِبَادِكَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ» (Oh Allah, make this little servant of Yours and his mother beloved to Your believing servants).
